Qualities To Look For Before Engaging A Corporate Photographer

By Jonathan Johnson

Corporate photography is an important requirement for most firms, but selecting the right photographer involves a significant amount of careful consideration. Other types of photography may not require the same skills and techniques that are needed in corporate photography; hence a general professional photographer may not necessarily be a good corporate photographer.

Companies that are planning to hire a corporate photographer have to judge the eligible candidates on several criteria to ensure that they fulfil the requirements of the business.

Versatility is the first thing that you need to look for in a corporate photographer as he may have to take upon a variety of tasks like covering an event, photography for promotions, or clicking appealing pictures of the company's products. A good corporate photographer must always be ready to take care of any of these responsibilities at short notice.

Corporate events are one shot affairs that don't allow the photographer to plan his angles or to go for retakes, and so he cannot afford to lose his alertness. Many unforeseen things happen at corporate events, and a casual approach on part of the photographer will consequently spoil his photographs. Therefore, a corporate photographer should be quick to respond and must always stay vigilant to the happenings and developments going on at the event.

It is also important for a corporate photographer to be able to work under restrictions and limitations and yet provide good photos. For example, in an indoor corporate event, he might have to do with inadequate light and deal with the crowd. He should be able to deliver even in a setting that makes photography very tough.

Another important aspect that must not be neglected is the photographer's work style and his personality. It is essential for a corporate photographer to know the preferences of the firm and also what the firm wants from him. A good photographer should be able to put the employees at ease, so that they don't stand cold before the camera when they are needed to pose with a smiling face at formal or casual events of the firm. In addition, the photographer has to be sociable and amicable, and must be a good person to interact and work with.

You must check samples of previous work of the photographer, but do not be swayed by his market reputation. It is a good idea to conduct personal interviews of candidates to get a better understanding of their personalities and check their appropriateness for the job.
