Is Windows 7 Really Better Than Vista?

By Julie Johnson

Honestly, could it be any worse than Vista was or whatever name they decided to call it in the end. No matter how they changed the name the concept just didn't work well. Maybe it did in theory but the actualization of it lost a little something. And with scarcely a month under its belt, what are users saying about this latest product in the Microsoft lineup? Well, some of the bugs are still being squashed but being that it is coming on the heels of Windows Vista; it has got to look pretty darn good to those who are trading in that for Windows 7.

Before the official launch of Windows 7, Microsoft did a test with a sample set of users to make sure they were not going to receive the same negative backlash they received with Vista. The users were comprised of individuals who used Windows for personal use only (61% of the testers), individuals who used Windows both personally and professionally (25 % of the testers) and individuals who used Windows strictly professionally (14% of the testers). The individuals who were tested also represented users who were installing Windows 7 on a PC that already had Vista, and users where Windows 7 was the only operating system ever installed on that PC.

Overall the response was positive showing a very small percentage of users who experienced difficulty with the installation, and this is to be expected when you install just about any new operating system. Most felt that the installation went smoothly with the predominant area of problems being in the areas of driver compatibility and areas of other software incompatibility. Of course, with these issues some users did experience a crash of their system and a few did have the blue screen of death occur. This was a very small percentage and should not be of concern for most who are switching to the Windows 7 operating system.

As for the rest of testing, after the installation was complete, the results for Windows 7 were outstanding. When Microsoft tested Windows Vista almost half of the testers said they were not satisfied with the operating system, which foreshadowed the feelings that the PC community would have for Vista. For Windows 7 only 5% of the testers said they were not satisfied with the operating system.

Windows 7 is a great operating system, and if you are currently using Windows Vista you will probably want to upgrade to 7 as soon as possible. Windows 7 of course has some bugs, which is to be expected, but Microsoft is pushing updated out as soon as they are available. There is no question that Windows 7 is a far superior operating system to Windows Vista, and it is probably the best system that Microsoft has ever released.
