Searching The Internet With Search Engines

By Rafael Hardy

The virtual world of Internet and web has fulfilled the dream of many of converting the world to a global village. The idea of the global village was to have a peaceful world, with no borders and no limitations. This idea was fulfilled with telecommunication and the Internet. Messages take seconds to reach to other parts of the world. Information about a topic appears with the blink of an eye and is free for use through internet. The internet information base is so wide and spread world wide that there is hardly a topic in the world on which you cannot find information.

Messages reach people in a blink of an eye. News, media, social networking sites have already allowed the freedom of expression. Internet knowledge base is so advanced that people can find information related to any topic and with hardly any cost.

One of the wonderful things about web and internet is the creation of search engines. A search engine works like a catalog in a physical library.

It is better in the sense that the access for information is world wide, it keeps expanding and searching it is a matter of seconds.

Searching the web via search engines is a norm is today's world. However, it is not easy retrieving relevant information from the web without keeping in mind a few tips and tricks.

It is also important to know how search engines retrieve information on the internet. With a knowledge base so wide, it is a huge task for search engines to bring quality information. Although search engines are not truly artificially intelligent yet but nowadays they are advanced enough to distinguish between relevant and irrelevant information.

Search engines do not share the algorithm or their internal working and the rules they use to retrieve information but we can know enough about their main methods by practicing a bit.

They seek the amount of keyword used in the content of a certain webpage and if sufficient enough bring back the results. It is very hard nowadays to forge content on the web and make sure it still appears in searches. However, search engines cannot read and understand like humans but they seem to be advancing in that direction a lot recently.

Always try to search on more than one search engine for the same keyword as we cannot really trust the authenticity of the information on web unless the source is very credible. Use simplified terms i. E. Do not write long sentences in the search as the search engine treats every word written by the user as a separate keyword. That means it might bring back results for each word separately.

Also, for prepositions, articles and helping verbs using the 'plus' operator instead of the preposition, article or helping verb. These are a few techniques that can help you in getting the right results while searching the web via search engines. However, it would take you some practice to pull out the right results for yourself.

It is a pretty good chance that you've ended up with theories instead of facts, unless you are search for theories. Always conduct the same search on different search engines with same keywords to check the consistency of results. You can end up with incorrect information and we don't want that to happen. Do we?
